May 29, 2016 - Doyle Hardware Building in Utica NY Sells for $1.1M

Congratulations to Jeffrey D’amore, Executive Managing Director at Pyramid Brokerage, Utica NY! Jeff sold the former Doyle Hardware building for $1.1M.

"Jeffrey D’Amore of Cushman & Wakefield/Pyramid Brokerage Company was responsible for marketing the property and facilitated the sale on behalf of Circle 8 Development, LLC. It could not immediately be learned Saturday who is behind Doyle Hardware, LLC. Attempts to reach Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri also were unsuccessful.

Stuart Bannatyne purchased the building for $450,000 in late 2007 from David Doyle and planned to build a restaurant, commercial space and loft apartments. The restaurant did eventually open in 2011, but things didn't go as planned and Bannatyne eventually declared bankruptcy in Connecticut, leaving behind a number of creditors — including the City of Utica." June 8, 2014 - Doyle Hardware Building - Utica, NY: A side view of the former Doyle Hardware Building. Now a little bit of history: This structure is a historic factory building which was built in three sections between 1881 and 1901. It was designed by architect Frederick H. Gouge in the early commercial architectural style with Sullvanesque characteristics. It features an entranceway with round arches and columns, and a large cornice with brackets. The entire four-story complex is approximately 100-feet x 260-feet. Originally built as a clothing factory, in 1934 it became a factory for the manufacture of spark plugs and in 1947 it became the home of the Utica Distrbuting Company. Later Doyle Hardware took over the building. Doyle Hardware closed in 2006 after 135 years in business. In early 2006, Stuart Bannatyne purchased the building from the Doyle family after they closed the hardware store. He had plans to open up a restaurant, offices and lofts in the building. In 2011, the building became the new home of Pier's & Blake, a restaurant. The city shut the restaurant down in 2012 due to code violations. The restarant was reopened in August of 2013. There was some talk that the building is currently in foreclosure but I'm not sure about that. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. Located in the Historic Baggs Square area, at 330-334 Main Street in Utica, NY.
