Hospitals of Syracuse, NY

We were told that Syrcuses hospitals were one of their Benchmarking Hospitals, and that these "downtown" hospitals created vibracy. First, Syracuse did not bulldoze a major portion of their downtown to create a new hospital district. Secondly, Syracuse's hospitals are not "in the downtown", they are on the edges of Syracuse's Central Business District or even further out.

"The [Syracuse] region is also well-served by a strong health-care network led by several regional hospitals, including Upstate Medical University, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Crouse Hospital, and the VA Hospital." [Ref.]

This 2016 CNY Progress Report shows the considerable investments that municipalities are placing into hospitals and healthcare, but none are bulldozing their historic urban cores to create an out-of-scale hospital district.
