What's going on behind the Utica hospital situation? We hear three hospitals are forming into one and a new hospital and campus are proposed for Downtown. Why is the Mohawk Valley Health System proposing to walk away from a 64-acres that they own, to go downtown where they own no land? The Utica-Rome area has 293,572 people in its "Metropolitan Statistical Area" (or MSA) with have a falling population (-1.95%). If we look at other areas like ours, what is occurring with their hospitals?
One similar MSA [Ref.], is the Kingsport and Bristol TN MSA. Three cities, add Johnson City, TN, and together they form a area similar as their population recently fell and is 306,000.
