TOPIC FOR TUESDAY, JULY 9, 2019:

What will be different for patients and their families at the new MVHS Regional Medical Center?

We have the continuing opportunity to talk to our patients, their families and community members as we bring the model of the new medical center to various locations across the region. People are most interested in how their experience and care may be enhanced in a new, state-of-the-art medical center. Here are key points about the benefits of the new regional medical center for patients and their families.

Private rooms, all with a view. Every patient will have a private room and the design of the new medical center gives every patient room a view. Private rooms not only offer more privacy and comfort for patients, they help to protect patients from the spread of infection. And, patients will be more comfortable by controlling both the room temperature and lighting.

More privacy and less noise in patient rooms and throughout the entire medical center. Beyond private rooms, the medical center has been designed with separate patient, visitor and service elevators, which means more privacy for patients since they no longer have to be transported between hospital services in “public” elevators with visitors. Taking advantage of the latest technology in construction, the regional medical center is using a design and materials that will reduce noise in patient rooms and throughout the medical center which in turn promotes rest and healing.

Nurses and physicians are “stationed” closer to patients and families. Unlike the traditional nurses’ station that is located in the center of a patient floor for all rooms, the new medical center will have team stations for nurses, physicians and ancillary staff, each which focuses on four patient rooms. There are 12 to 16 team stations on each floor of the MVHS Regional Medical Center, which enables nurses and providers to see all of their assigned patients from their station and enables easier communication between nurses, providers, patients and families.

Advanced medical care all on one campus. This next generation medical center offers medical advancements that will redefine traditional healthcare practices.

A new level of surgical services will be available at the Center for Surgical Innovation, which will have the most up-to-date robotic surgical systems available.

Centralized heart services will be established, building upon MVHS’ award-winning, comprehensive cardiac care.

The state-of-the-art Emergency Department will include the latest technology and design in trauma care for those suffering life-threatening injuries.

Flexibility in design enables MVHS to keep pace with rapidly changing technology and ever-evolving approaches for delivering patient care that goes beyond the norm of traditional treatment.

Access to new specialists and physicians. The to-be-built, technologically-advanced medical center is already drawing the attention of new physicians and specialists interested in coming to our City and region. This provides our patients and our community with a broader range of specialists with a diverse set of skills and backgrounds.

Easy access from the highway to hospital front door and parking garage as well as ED entrance and parking lot. There will be an easy-drop off to the front door of the medical center then direct access to the parking garage. For emergencies, cars can go directly to the patient entrance of the Emergency Department (ED), and family members and friends who bring the patient to the ED can park in the designated lot just for ED patients. Ambulances have a separate ED entrance and parking area.
