Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, Owensboro, KY

The Mohawk Valley Health System has Sighted Various Hospitals, which they visited while researching their Oneida County Concept. Our group is investigating Owensboro Health Regional Hospital (OHRH); you may join our group discussion here on Facebook.

First observation, this is not a downtown hospital, OHRH is more similar to Utica's St. Luke's Campus. Owensboro did not bulldoze their downtown! No they moved to a large site three miles outside their city's center.

Watch the old downtown hospital being Demolished. Visit the old hospital location on a dated Google map: 815 East Parrish Avenue, Owensboro, KY 42303 prior to demo; a smaller portion of the old downtown hospital was kept and remodeled - for primary care and smaller scale health services!

OHRH opened in Owensboro, KY on June 1, 2013. It is a 780,000-square-foot hospital with 477 beds. The community had an open debate if a new hospital should be constructed or their old one redeveloped, read Should OMHS build a new hospital? (PDF).

We first estimated the new site was 140 acres, but it larger, 162 acres. The site also features lower cost, and safer, surface parking. Other site features include; several ponds, more than 1,000 trees, and an on-campus walking trail.

Read more about their new hospital project here, Raising The Bar At Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Also Take A Virtual Tour; full service bank, pharmacy, 300-seat auditorium, gift shop for a variety of gifts and necessities, a chapel, cafeteria, coffee bar, patio overlooking a healing pond, AND hospitality suites - hotel-style guest rooms for visitors of patients.

It is seen that Kentucky is a Certificate of Need (CON) state, and many other details were fully disclosed to the public here: Meeting Minute: Owensboro Metropolitan Planning Commission, November 5, 2009 For example...

"A Certificate of Need has been filed with the application as required by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Office of Health Policy. Findings based on the Phase I Environmental Site Assessment prepared by Associated Engineers dated March 21, 2007 and submitted to the Owensboro Metropolitan Planning Commission on October 27, 2009"

The architects of this hospital were HGA Architects and Engineers, while the builder was Turner Construction, the same firm selected by MVHS. See into Owensboro Health Regional Hospital's Financials On ProPublica

Our group wants a new hospital, however as we have said for over 2-1/2 years: the location is all wrong, Here's 20+ Reasons Why, but it conflicts with Utica's small scale and our Master Plan.

The Utica concept would equal another destructive phase of urban renewal for our downtown, and as the above story suggests - Springfield Regional Medical Center did not revive it's downtown. Take action, write a letter and or make a call... here the Contact Information you need.
