Pediatrics in #MVHSDowntown

In recent years pediatric doctors departed the Mohhawk Valley Health System managed St. Luke's Campus. They stated "care was dangerous," this per story titled, Private Pediatricians Pull Out Of Health System, ER Coverage.

As a result, today Utica-area families are told to go to Syracuse, or another regional health system. Does the proposed downtown hospital concept, per their C.O.N. look like a solution? Our research suggests it is not. We're talking about this on Facebook here #NoHospitalDowntown Talks Pediatrics.

We started at the beginning, what is Pediatrics? Answer: "The branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents." This article here seemed VERY relevant, New model emerges for hospital-based pediatric care

True we are not the first or final word on hospital design, however our significant research proves bulldozing downtown is a failed urban development concept. And with the OCMD Utica already has, healthcare-wise, downtown is a extremely unintelligent choice.

April 13, 2021 - Update from Mr "Bob on the Job" Scholefield, Bob on the Job - Pediatrics where we hear...

"8th floor pediatric patients might catch a glimpse of Comets players entering or exiting the AUD, and it might make them feel better"

And its a very small department, just 402 square feet per MVHS's Certificate Of Need (C.O.N.). Odd that MVHS spent north of $20 million destroying downtown, yet budgeted only $185,566 to build-out our new peds department.

"I keep hearing that the new regional medical center will not include pediatric services. Is this true?"Read more...

July 22, 2018 - Reading, Bed plan at downtown hospital to follow trends, we learn...

Here’s how many patient beds of different types are in the existing Mohawk Valley Health System hospitals and how many are planned for the proposed downtown Utica hospital. Bed type;St. Elizabeth Campus;St. Luke’s Campus;New hospital: Pediatric- 8, 14, 8.

July 5, 2018 - Looking back to May 2016 we read, Private pediatricians pull out of health system, ER coverage, and that MVHS "...has pediatric care but plans to call for the eventual consolidation of pediatric inpatient care at the St. Luke’s Campus. Right now, the St. Luke’s daily pediatric census averages fewer than four patients"...

June 15, 2018 - Speaking of Pediatrics, what about a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)...

Nurses Discuss Peds vs. NICU Jobs, also consider, Levels of Neonatal Care.

November 6, 2017 - The MVHS C.O.N. reads...

Total Project Cost stated to be $480,000,000. Number of beds sought include; 8 Coronary, 42 Intensive Care Beds, 23 Maternity Beds, 232 Medical/Surgical Beds, 8 Neonatal Intermediate Care Beds, 16 Pediatric Beds, and 44 Psychiatric Beds.

Reading New model emerges for hospital-based pediatric care, we very feel confident the downtown hospital solution 1s not a pediatrics solution for the Oneida County Region.
