Masonic Research Laboratory, Utica, NY

Who is the Masonic Research Laboratory? How did they end-up in the MV500 Hunger Games, and what's really behind their latest press announcement? Health System, Masonic Lab Looking To Team Up This was and is really old news.

Why years later are they still searching for a way to work together? True Governor Cuomo wanted "research and teaching" combined with hospitals, but what true benefits are gained by having Masonic Research in the hospital? Hospitals have infections, what benefit is there to having research labs directly combined with such an environment?

We believe the news conference is just a PR stunt. The hospital's political backers are trying to make their ill-conceived Downtown Utica hospital seem better. Please name your science, or are patents and huge technology licensing deals underway? Have we learn anything for the swirling headlines of the past few years?

Did two CEO's; Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare President & CEO Scott Perra earning $426,500 and former Masonic Medical Research Laboratory Executive Director Charles Antzelevitch, at $307,000 ever meet? Did these two gentlemen ever hold any meetings with former SUNY Poly CEO Alain Kaloyeros?

Return for more information, as we're tracking all occurrences related to; Albany, the Mohawk Valley, Utica, Economic Development, Hospital Developments, from the day Cuomo took office and before. People, events, companies and more. The headline spoke about a better hospital, the legislation touted an "Oneida County Healthcare Transformation", but since the Fall of 2014 things sure do seem pretty shady.

MVREDC 2015 Progress Report (PDF) Reads:

"Successive CFA investments in Masonic Medical Research Laboratories have created new STEM jobs and globally-recognized innovations in cardiac research."

"Engaging in some of the world’s leading heart research, the Masonic Lab has been the recipient of two CFA awards, which together enhance research capacity of the institution. Its Round 2 funding award from Empire State Development allowed for the purchase of an optical mapping system, flow hood and bioreactor to study Congestive Heart failure and explore alternative therapies for end-stage heart failure using an innovative approach to grow new hearts using a patient’s own skin cells. This project created 2 jobs and retained 40. Building on the success of this award, the Lab received Round 3 funding from Empire State Development to purchase additional scientific materials and equipment to advance research in genome sequencing. These investments strengthen regional R&D capacity, and bolster an institution that provides more than $35 million in economic impact to the region annually."

"The Mohawk Valley is fortunate to have great R&D assets, including several colleges, the Masonic Medical Research Lab, and the Air Force Research Lab. Since 2011, the MVREDC has assisted numerous projects that leverage these assets, and grow a culture of entrepreneurship."
