Why?

Why is Governor Cuomo Funding the tiny administration board of Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) with $300M for a Evacuation Zone Hospital that ignores the CSX railroad Hazmat Risks? And why no study of the medical and health care needs of Utica? And why was this $300 Million Grant written ONLY so MVHS could win it? No competition? Appears to be Grant Steering, right?

There is a Lawsuit, but the Albany Supreme Cuort has been slow going and the project has already destroyed a BIG part of Utica's historic CoLa Neighborhood. Meanwhile, Utica already has the well-establsihed Oneida County Medical District where one Utica hospital (Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare) owns 64-acres just 1-3/4 miles from Downtown Utica.

Placing Utica's only acute care hospital near CSX tracks is not based on data, science, and facts. In fact, Utica and Oneida County has never seen healthcare-based reports nor studies of its current hospital campuses. A new hospital first came about becuase money was "promised." Next, it went downtown becuase of corruption and the wholesale elimination of the Public's Opinion.

Our Concerns - Ignoring historical assets and Utica's Master Plan, ignoring proven/modern urban design tatics, providing no studies (of Utica's hospitals and assets, of the population center, missing evaluation of risks), a corrupt SEQR Review, shutting-out the public on hospital debate/location discussion, steering grant and no competition in designing Utica's healthcare system, ignoring Publics' Voices... and more!

April 14, 2020 - Reading the news, as MVHS recieves a $9M early infusion, but forcasts a $31M loss in May. So can Cuomo and or Trump Save This Utica Hospital?

“MVHS received $9 million from the federal government on Thursday." CEO states, but continues, "It's less than two weeks of the health system's expenses.”

So how does MVHS pay $18M to Bond Holders in 2020? Where's does Cuomo's $300M grant stand? And what is the true Budget for #MVHSDowntown? Does this article, titled Who Should Get a Coronavirus Bailout and How?, suggest virus recovery funds be used on pointless new hospital concepts?

April 4, 2017 - Cuomo supports the ill-conceived Downtown Utica Hospital. A pledge of $300M made it into the NYS Budget twice. On the second occurrence, it was announced with great exuberance and detail. While MVHS, and everyone locally was waiting to hear about winning the $300M Grant, the award was sidetracked by the granting body, and came down near midnight, we tweeted...

The media covered it on April 5, 2017, $300M State Infusion Step Closer For New Utica Hospital...

“New York is consistently leading the way in improving how we deliver medical care to our residents while thinking ahead to the future,” Gov. Cuomo said. “This is the kind of health care facility that we need to keep Mohawk Valley’s momentum of transforming the local economy through nanoscience research and creating thousands of good-paying jobs in both the immediate and long-term future. Access to high-quality health care services is a crucial aspect of the region’s economic strategy to thrive and grow.”

Prior to the "budget extender" the "downtown" site was highly questioned, and not a given. However, with a middle-of-the-night Budget Extender, Cuomo Commented It, stating...

"$300 Million for Utica Hospital: New York State has awarded $300 million for the Mohawk Valley Health System to build a modern and efficient hospital in downtown Utica. This 392 bed, 750,000 square-foot world-class health care facility will replace the outdated and obsolete St. Luke’s Hospital Campus and St. Elizabeth Medical Center, further integrating the system of care in Oneida County. The new state-of-the-art hospital will offer emergency, acute inpatient, outpatient, primary care and other health care services in a single downtown location, improving the accessibility and quality of health care in the region. Mohawk Valley Health System’s project, awarded via competitive RFA, will strengthen the fiscal stability of the regional health care system, save taxpayer dollars, and bring thousands of jobs into downtown Utica."

Within 24 hours, the UticaOD exclaimed it...

Mr Cuomo is eyeing the Whitehouse, and has friends in high places...

Mr Cuomo wants to do big things...

Does Govenor Cuom know, or care, that his hospital would bulldoze Downtown Utica and that it is not all "crushing blighted" and "functionally obsolete"?

Locally there are many that hope Cuomo will "pull them up"...

Brindisi is of the same party and hoping to get to Congress. Utica Mayor seems safe with another term after "stealing" it, and County Executive even though a Republican, endorsed Cuomo. So delivering a hospital, keeping the faith and money flowing for Utica/Marcy Nano seems to transcend party lines...

And to those that say the money can't be moved around...

Plus, don't forget when the $300M left the budget, $100M Went Into Nano Technology up at SUNYIT.

July 24, 2014 - The Daily show with Jon Stewart offers, CSI - Cuomo Scandal Investigation. So corruption surrounding the hospital and Oneida County healthcare is not out of the realm of possibilities. For example, a Smoking Gun perhaps?
